Hifonics or MA Audio?

From any install I've done/set-up I've owned, I've found a lot of the hifonics to be highly overrated. When you swap them out with stronger amps (same ratings though) there is a pretty **** big audible difference.

They're OK amps, quality of parts is about normal for the price, fairly solid.IMO they're just weak.

Now this post does NOT reflect their higher end amps, just the brutus amps.I should've specified.

There's no question that the hifonics brutus line is overrated in its power specs, though I feel that between the two amplifiers mentioned the hifonics will definitely provide more power for 2 and 1ohm loads. As far as SQ goes, I've got no idea what the MA can do. The BXi I do have isnt as great as the kicker kx series it replaced in SQ terms, but its certainly a choice I'd make again. The BXi series sound very clean for their price though like already mentioned I dont believe they push their ratings.

Pzaully

Edit: I do have an ammeter and dmm, I could take some readings after my new HO alternator gets installed. Anyone interested?

Both companys are good for the $. I sell all there products at the shop. As for dollar to watt ratio the edge go's to ma. we ran the hk2000 against the brutus 2000 and the hk droped 1990watts rms at 14.3volts. the brutus put out 1910rms 14.3volts. as for there smaller amps i would give the edge to hifonics. So in the end it is still up to you.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

If you can find an '05 model of the BX series, they're better in quality over the BXi line ('06 model and up). They've proven there power to me once or twice. My buddy had pair of L7's hooked up to a BX2005D and it smoked them, with all gains properly tuned with an o-scope. I've never owned one, but got to have first hand expirience with one for about a year and a half.

Sorry, but if I recall correctly the older ones were actually WORSE than the newer ones. There shouldn't be such large audible differences between 1500 watt amps.Drop in a hifonics to a pair of subs that can take it, then drop in an ED 9.1.........guess which one sounds louder //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

The old 1500D's were tested to put out about 900-1100 watts at 1 ohm IIRC.

i have owned both hifoniks and the ma amps and they are really the same amps (both are made by the same company) but i would take the ma amps over the hifoniks any day of the week as long as you dont run them at .5 ohm then the ma amps are great amps.

Thanks to some morons at my local shop, I managed to go threw 4 Hifonics BX1500d brutus's in a year back in 03-04. At first I was getting really upset with HiFi, the amp was beating to all hell but it was always running hot, never cut off but it ran quite hot to the touch and about every 4 months or so I would be ridng along happily destroying my eardrums and then pop-pop-pop and smoke fills my trunk. Well come to find out they had the amp wired up at like .3 or .6 ohms (i had 3 twelve's). After I found that out I was actually impressed with the fact that they held up that long, cause my radio was almost always playin full tilt, went and got a Bx2006d brutus a year and a half ago, got it wired up right and it stilll beats to all hell but now it runs cool as a fan and I havnt had any problems out of it. Now I got to get a bigger alternator for the beast

Maxxsonics (maker of hifonics) to the best of my knowledge does not make MA amps

Yes shortyg83 is right maxxsonics is the maker of hifonics, crunch and afew others. ma audio, visonik, clif designs, thump are owned by anaba group or used to be. They are two completely different companys.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif
