Interesting question.

#8=16484mcm (mil circular mils)

#7=20770mcm

#6=26170mcm

#5=32974mcm

#4=41548mcm

#3=52350mcm

#2=65961mcm

#1=83111mcm

#0=104720mcm

So, 2x#4 would give you 83096 mcm which is darn near #1.

And, #4 has a rated* current flow of 131 amps. #1 has a rated current flow of......262 amps (surprise!!).

*the amount of current flow which will cause a 1/2 volt drop in a 15 foot run of cable

Recommended fuse size: #4 = 125, #1 = 250, and 0 = 325

So, no, two runs of 4AWG is NOT equivalent to one run of 0.

Edit: and another calculation: 70% efficient Class D amp at 13.8 volts with 1AWG wire, 15 ft. long comes out to a maximum of 2529 amplifier watts. If you are running nothing except the Herc at 1 ohm, you might be OK.

Wow! Thanks for the clarification.
