Hifonics BRUTUS BX 1000 D MKII Problems

My friends hifonics brutus amp is acting weird when I turn up the gains pass 1/4. The subwoofer starts to go crazy and would still continue to go crazy when i turn the volume back down to zero on my deck. I turned the gains to 1/8 and turned up the music works fine but doesn't even hit hard and when I turn the volume louder and bass on my deck louder the sub starts to go crazy again. We are pushing a Kicker 12L7 wired down to 2 ohms, and before it never did this. It worked fine for about a month and out of nowhere it started to go crazy out of nowhere. Any suggestions would help. First I would try a different head unit and different RCA cables to determine if the problem is with the amp, the head unit, or the cables. Process of elimination.
