Hey, in my car i have 5X7's in all 4 doors and im looking to upgrade but i dont know how long i plan on keeping the car so i would like to get atleast 1 set of speakers that is transferable to another car so i was thinking of getting one pair of 5X7's for the front door and a pair of 6X9's for the back doors (i know im gonna have to cut the hole for the 6X9's to fit)..but i was also thinking maybe all 4 should be 6X9's ... .. which set up would you recomend and why please... thanks for the help

so your saying what?..... just get 2 speakers .. why would i do that .. usually someone would want 2 front speakers and 2 rear speakers
When you are watching a music performance the sound is coming forwards, so you want to replicate that unless you want to supply people in the back with music. Plus, any money you save can be used to upgrading the front stage.

ok so your saying dont bother putting them in the doors?... would i be better off cutting holes and putting them in the rear deck?.. and no one answered my size question

It entirely depends on the speakers you'll be using. I personally like 6.5s. 6x9s will generally be louder, 5x7s will generally be better for midrange and have better response.

And you can try to put all the power to the front but unless you really wanna go big on tuning and fabricating fiberglass pods for them and angling them and everything it can sound really weird to have only front speakers. If you plan on not doing all that and just doing a basic setup add in the rear speakers. If you just throw speakers in the factory front mounts and run a simple head unit your music will sound weak and empty with only front speakers.

im not really getting into that fiberglassing and all that type of stuff.. for now i will be running the speakers off the head unit but i plan on amping it in the future.... my question is should i go with 2 5X7's in the front and 2 6X9's in the rear....ooooorrrrr..... should i go with 6X9's all around //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

If you simply deaden and seal the doors having just a front stage will work fine. The majority of this forum does so.

You should see what size speakers your car fits from the factory. The less hacking the better. I would go with a 6.5 component set personally. Most cars have 6x9's from the factory, most people will remove them and use them to help vent sound from the subs to the cabin.

If you use a baffle, MDF or otherwise you can fit 6.5's in your door panels.

If you use a baffle you can fit 6.5's in most door panels.

Thus 6.5's will be easily transferrable to your next car with little to no modification of your current speaker holes.

Don't listen to Sarthos, he dropped a bunch of bull on you about the speaker size affecting volume and midrange performance. What really affects volume and performance and any frequency is your install quality. Go read a quick DIY about sealing/deadening your door panels, it really doesnt take much know how or expertise, you've just gotta be methodical and able to follow instructions. If you can do that you'll see a world of difference in speaker performance, as compared to the difference in 5x7's to 6x9's.

It's 90% install, 10% equipment.

You don't sound like you're too serious about this anyways, if thats the case, you should just get a decent set of 5x7 co-axials, just because everyone on this forum is in love with 6.5 component sets doesnt mean they are the thing for you, you'll be perectly happy with a set of 5x7 coaxials and a mid end alpine head unit.

However if you feel the need to make a serious musical investment a 6.5 component set up front with some 5x7's in the back running off of an amplifier with a 10 or 12 inch sub in the back would be a good starting point for a basic system.

thanks, i have factory 5x7's now thats why i either want to go 1 set of 5x7 and 1 set of 6x9's or all 6x9's because i know atleast i get to take a pair of 6x9's and transfer it to another car ... i have an alpine cda-102 headunit and i know my best bet would be a 6.5 componet because i helped my dad install his whole system and his consisted of 4 sets of alpine type x 6.5" components and 1 set of 5 1/4" components.. but im really not looking into spending 2 grand on interior speakers so .. i figured my method would be the best route
