hertz?

The bigger amount of Hz a sub covers is supposed to make for a better sub right? But is there too much? I am looking at four subs right now and here are there Hz spreads: 25-350; 25-250; 27-700; 18-1,000. Not necessarily concerned for sq as much as spl.

The only important number is the lowest number in that spec, and even that is mostly meaningless because the sub's in car performance depends on matching the right box with it.

Then theres cabin gain, but that might be a little much to get into at this point.

cabin gain?

The small size of most vehicles (even SUV's) reinforces the lowest bass notes, and can add up to 3db's of sound below the expected cutoff frequency of the sub/box combo.

Its not unheard of for a sealed sub expected to be rolling off the bass in the low 30hz range to actually reproduce bass down to 15hz due to cabin gain.
