As you can see, the dent is more prominent on one half of the cone.

Short explanation: Linear offset.

Detailed explanation: The sub was still functional with 1 coil receiving power. The coil on the driver that is dead (not blown), showed no circuit. If the coil was burnt, it would have been ceased or some sort of distortion would have been heard through the driver. Other than the dent in the cone (due to one coil being dead and sending to much power to it creating a linear offset. Not only offsetting its linearity, but completely changing the T/S parameters entirely).

This was rather a manufacturer's defect compared to user fault simply because a coil does not just go dead. I had also read the impedence of each coil. One read fine and the other read 0 ohms, again, the sub played fine and normal. Hook up any sub with just one coil. It works right? Same thing in my situation, however I had both coils wired just that 1 of them was dead.

The dual coils on a sub are concentric. There is no side-to-side offset by only one coil being driven. That was my point. You don't understand how the coils are arranged on the sub and that they act identically on the former/cone. The damage to that cone was from a different source. Possible a cone misalignment or a flaw in the surround or uneven loading in the enclosure.

You can run a dual coil sub by powering only one coil without ill effects as long as you understand the changes made to the T/S parameters and account for that change with the enclosure.

Interesting^.

Anyway, I recommended him the RL-p first because compared to the JL and Hertz, it is every bit as good for not as much money. I've heard W7s, W6s and my RL-p. I prefer the sound of the RL-p and W6 over the W7, but the W7 was loudest (all 12" enclosures, heard my sub ported and sealed, and I've heard both JL subs ported and sealed).

Not may people on here have experience with the Hertz Mille subs, but they look awesome on paper and knowing Hertz quality. With the price he was quoted for them, I suggested he try out the Hertz subs, but like it has been said, I don't think he could go wrong with any of the choices.
