Heres my story come neg the spit outta me

yep try turn it down or use the multi meter method to set the gain. also what kind of box they in
This could be the issue as well. More than likely the prefab that he was using to run the Orions. Is it sealed or ported?

So to prevent it from happening again, get a box (made to specs for the SDC's) and set your gains correctly.

Using the dial numbers alone isn't sufficient. Using a DMM really isnt sufficient either. Turn up the hu to about 80 percent of its volume, then SLOWLY turn up the gain (start at 8 volt and move towards .2v) until you hear a trace of distortion (will be very hard to hear with a sub) once you hear distortion back the gain off a bit and you will be set. Use a high quality cd or a test tone to do this.

I've considered this, but I worry about setting it higher than the HU voltage and then shit breaking...

yea wow i just went and looked and your right... so wtf.. that kinda makes me a lil mad.. when i talked to aq over the phone and had me set it this way
I'm sorry, but it was probably you who just did the reverse of what they were saying. It doesn't go from left to right -> .2v to 8v, it goes the opposite.

coil, you clipped them. A sub wouldn't seize up from the spiders/glue joints failing.
there's your answer. Learn how to set your amp/HU properly and the proplem will "magically" disapper. Also learn to recone yourself as it'll save you money during the learning process.

I've built several set ups with 2 SDC's off 1200-1500watts and they take a beating with no problems.

Um yes it does.. i got the amp rite here... on the left its 8v on the right is .2v

I no longer have a prefab i sold that thing quick.. had ami creations make me a custom ported box tuned to 33.. 4cubes with a kerferred port.. box is not the problem!

My point. Reread what I said.

You probably initially set it assuming it went from left to right low to high, when in fact, it actually goes from high to low, left to right.
