WHen I installed my Kicker 15 L7 a few months ago, I made a 5 cubic foot box for it. The box is 17 inches tall and I literally had to use a car jack and bang up the rear area of my trunk to squeeze the mofo through. Problem, it sort of looks like shit, and the SUB and PORT is facing the SIDE of my car, not the trunk, nor front where I could hang down my rear seats(either way would be louder than when its facing the side now.)

I was lazy at the time and didnt feel like making another box(I thought 17 inches would be okay it was my bad for not measuring the box correctly the first time.)

SO this is what I want to do. I want to make a little smaller box, Ill say 4- 4.5 cf. Im going to base the design off the first design that I made. I have heard that the best way to get the most output of your sub is to place the port and sub facing torwards where the trunk opens.

Im about to complete this process in the next day or so. I constructed my box completely wrong the first time, not using screws(nails) and not using the glue right and shit(the box works fine) I just want to improve my building skills. I have read how and all on the forum

Im looking about 4-4.5 cubes and facing torwards the trunk. Is their a big difference from 5 cubes to 4? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

This is the design that I am looking to build. What do you guys think about this? I know I was reamed before for not using screws and shyt, I will try and make this box perfect

well making it 16 would be squeezing the sub kind of the same way it went in when it was 17. I just want to make it easier on myself so I dont have to shove shit in.

just make the box as tall as the sub is. if that's too high, then put the sub on top....anything would be better than the surround of it hitting that speaker cover. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

it doesnt hit it anymore....

I'm Kris's friend, would it sound better up firing then side?

i would just re do the carpet and be done with it....if you build another box i would go sub up port back

the thing is, his back seat cannot lose because of this box, we want to drop in a smaller box so his car can go back to normal. plus get a little trunk room back

Well like they said its got to be at least as tall as the speaker, so @ least 15 5/8 tall. Thats like an 1 1/2" shorter then what you got now, so if you fit what you got 15 5/8 tall should fit in no problem.

Also id say try to face everything back for the best results, in most trunk cars that always has the best mix of SPL and SQ. You could try it other ways but if you don't want to build a bunch of boxes to get it sounding just right id say everything back for success.

all b.s. aside, thats not the choice of sub to put in a smaller box or be concerned about trunk room.

i had a guy with 2 12" L5's and a bmw.....by the time we were done beatin ourselves up, he decided to go with different sub. we could have went with a smaller box, but then they wouldn't sound like they should.

4CF at 32Hz would limit the L7??
it depens on the port size and it's displacement....and if can you build it to these dimensions and have it fit the way you want it to.

a port with the area of 60.75sq" (13.5" x 4.5") needs to be 12.75" (12.88" exactly) will get you 32hz...and is .5cu' of displacement. so your at 4.5cu' internally not counting sub and bracing displacement.
