Helping a gold Newb/WTB: Golf Clubs

So, I've been wanting to play a couple of rounds of golf, and be ready if I'm invited to go out playing. So, I want to buy a set of clubs.

Unfortunately, there are as many clubs as subs; so, it's not the easiest thing to shop for.

Could someone tell me what to look for? I was thinking that I could get a set of used equipment for about 150, but now I realize that might be a little too low?

I am of average build and height (6'0"), so standard length clubs (I learned just today that there was a "standard" length.) should fit me, right?

I used to play golf with my dad before I was even a teenager, so I've hit a ball before, but when I walked into that pro-shop and the guy starts talking about graphite shafts and shit, I'm having trouble staying with him.

wow, i really wish they invented sometype of forum, that, you know, dealed with golf.
