help with amp

OK here is the problem. I have a Kenwood KAC-859 5 channel amp. I have it hooked up to my factory head unit. I ran speaker wire inputs instead of RCA inputs due to the factory head unit. All four speakers are working but the sub is not. I checked the wires on the sub to make sure polarity was set properly and they were. Is there any way to check voltage at the sub channel output to make sure it is working and is so what should it be? I'm kinda lost with this and any help would be appreciated.

I have a kenwood four channel...it has two sets of rca inputs..if I only hook up one set of rca's then only one set of speakers works ...sounds like maybe since your using the speaker level inputs that maybe the 5th channel isn't getting any signal from the HU...you might try and run a y adaptor to the sub channel...oh wait you said it's speaker level... so maybe get a line level converter so you have rca signal then run a y adaptor to your sub channel and see if it works... was your setup working previously or is this a new install? check your signal selection switches I know mine has an A and an AB setting for choosing two channels or four...

I have the excelon 5 ch amp. It only takes RCAs in so this may not help. When I hooked everything up my sub wasnt working. Turned out that one of the wires got knocked off when I was putting the sub in the box. To check the output on the sub out channel i just ran the wires from the sub output on the amp to one of my stock speakers. It worked, so then i check the sub's wiring. Also, I know my amp has 4-5 sliders on the side where the RCAs come in. 2 of them you adjust depending on the amount of RCAs coming in and 3 of them are the HP and LP filters. If your map has those, they would need to be set up for speaker level inputs. Check that as well. Good luck.

Well I will give hooking up another speaker to it to rule out the sub not working. The sub is a bazzoka by the way. I followed the recommended settings for running the amp this way as a starting point. This is the first time running this amp but the sub was used before. I was kinda wondering if I would have a problem was running speaker level input as opposed to RCA's. Thanks for the help.

I have a 5 channel MTX 4505 and I guess ur amp is to weak, get rid of it and get urself an MTX. Oh and make sure you check a button that turns on certain # of channels at a time.

Thanks for everyones help. It was the sub. Now that I got a new sub this amp is sounding great to me. Thanks again.
