I'm sure this question has been asked many times but if someone could give me a quick accurate answered I'd really appreciate it. Im about to purchase a 15" kicker L7 and I was wondering what's the difference between sealed vs. ported and always what's the difference between putting a sub in its minimum required specs to putting it in its maximum required specs??

Thanks for the help

To put it short and simple, youre going to get more output with a ported enclosure. With the size of the enclosure, it just depends on the type of bass you want. I see youre getting a 15" kicker l7, so im guessing you just want it to get loud. Id go with a bigger enclosure for that sub. Also with those subs, id tune the box a little higher. From what ive seen, they dont really like the lower tuning. But I can be wrong on that one.

Still gotta know what amp you have and what kind of vehicle as well.

ported keeps the coils cooler longer also you get boomier bass from a ported enclosure ,small boxes are more peakier than bigger boxes .as far as sealed or ported ,that depends on your listening likes and dislikes

i would get a diamond d6 before i bought that kicker l7.i had a cvx before and my d6 is louder than that cvx was in the same ported box.the cvx made my windshield bump a little but my d6 flexes my whole roof back glass spoiler all of it.but,if you are stuck on the l7 than by all means get it.i would advise you to port it though.as stated by mylows10,it will keep the coils cooler.

i was in a trunk car with the back seats still in with a guy demo ing his 15 type r for me back when i was thinking about alpine and it was soo loud on low htz i couldnt stay in the car long.he did have a big box with 4 areo ports in it.even though it was loud,i still wasnt impressed lol
