help! my power wire is melting!

ok so today i decided to play with the settings on my amp, so i get to the point where im wanging like its never wanged before but i smell something burning, so immediately i stop what im doing and trace it down to the point right where the power connects to the battery... the power wire was bubbling and super hot and had already melted the plastic part that covers the crimped part ...

i know that 4 gauge wire is pretty shitty but WTF !? will a moded 81000D actually melt the wire ? its running @ 1ohm and nearly full tilt on the gains with 0 bass boost (no bottoming out, no smelly coils, L7's love it) the only neagtive thing that happens is the melting wire + my rear bumper is starting to come off //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

At a guess I'd say you're drawing entirely too much current through however many feet of 4awg you've got feeding that MTX amp and the result is pretty plain.

As for the bumper?

Well, it's a '95 Sable.

then if its that, it likely has the carrying capacity of an 8 or 6 gauge wire... and probably isnt big enough to carry the current you need, which is why its melting.

what size fuse are you running? your fuses should pop long before your wire melts

Maybe you got battery acid on your wire and with all the heat, it started to melt =0
