HELP: my amp smells like its buring!

hello, As the title says, when i went to go hooked up my JL 500/1 amp it started to smell like it was buring, and no sound came out of the subs. just wondering if anyone has ever had this issue or if anyone knows how to fix it.

if it helps the smell was strongest by the power wire.

Did you guys have your elec. system disconnected when you attached power to your amps? If not, the spark during initial hookup coulda fried something in the amp. And do any protection lights come on?
