Help me please wires not working

I recently got a 12 jl and i put it in a sealed box etc. I ran the postive power from the battery and hooked it to the red lead on my box and made a ground to the trunk lid and put it to the ground on my box but i hear no sound or anything out of the speaker when i turn it on do i need anything else besides the box and sub? what am i doing wrong.

the amp isnt the battery? cause i thought the power from the battery made it work so i put that into the sub input things

ill say it nice and symple......UNLESS YOU DONT WANT UR SUB RUNNING OFF UR HU THEN YOU NEED AND I REPEAT NEED AN AMP.
