Help deciding on components

I have a sundown 100.2 that i recently put some focal 165 a1's on. After only about 2 days the left mid started making a horrible scratching type noise. I'm assuming that it has already blown. Anyways, im looking for a decent set of 6.5" comps that can handle the 100.2 well enough. I've been looking around and am thinking either the re re components or rainbow slc 265 kicks. I can get the re's locally and be able to hear them before hand if i decided on them. So basically I need to know if both of these sets would be able to take the power and some incite on which of these sets i should go with.

Focal 165A1's should be able to handle 100w per side without problem. Were you cranking at full volume, sending them a clipped signal? A clipped signal is the easiest way to overheat a voice coil. Did you have the gains set properly, to make sure a clipped signal is never sent?

Are they still under warranty?

To answer your original question, 100w per side is on the lower end of power. Look for speakers that have high efficiency, to get the most sound for the available power. A sensitivity rating of 93dB would be good.

If you like the sound of Focal speakers, then the Focal Polyglass line would be a good choice. It's also a nice upgrade from the Access line.

thanks for the input guys. Seeing as how the focals should've been able to handle the power fine, im just going to warranty them, and give them another shot and hopefully have better luck this time

Also, for my gain i should have 100*4=400 sqrt400=20v correct?

One last question, are you sure the speaker is the problem, and not the wiring or something else? Since this is a new install, maybe the wiring came loose? I've even heard of the speaker terminals shorting out because they were touching the aluminum backing on Dynamat sound deadener.
