HELP!! Amp Strapping Ohmage Question

Ok so, if i have an Orion HCCA D5000 and 2 Orion HCCA 15.4s running at 1 OHM, if i want to add another D5000 strapped, will i still have to get 2 15.2s? or can i keep the 15.4s to still run at 1 ohm? So i guess my question relates to the amps being strapped together. Do they work as one to run 2 4ohm subs at 1ohm, or are they still separated? Please help!

well unless you have dual 4 ohm voice coils, which i don't think those sub are... you are at (2 ohms not 1 ohm)..

and if you have another amp i would get two more subs, double cone surface and double the power, plus easier on the amp and sound better.

i hope this helps.

They are 4ohm voice coils(15.4s) X 2 = 1 ohm, right?

but id still like to know if when strapping these amps, do they work as one with respects to ohmage?

if you have 2 x 4 ohm drivers (connected in parallel) it will = 2 ohms.

(connected in series) will = 8 ohms... you would have to have 4 x 4 ohm drivers to = 1 ohm.

and some amp struggle when strapped together, because of the power supply..

but if your amps are badass then go for it... it will be ok since they can handle the 1 ohm load... hook the amps in series, not parallel or you won't get the voltage increase.

Did i mention that these are Dual 4OHm.

no, i thought you had (They are 4ohm voice coils(15.4s) X 2) and one of the sites showed them to be single coil. So then you are exactly right, you got a 1 ohm load and hooking them to the other amp will drag them to there knees at 1/2 ohm load, because of the double voltage, probably too much for the amps and you will end up with zero amps...lol

Get two more subs and you will be better off then trying to strap the two... unless you hook the sub series/parallel to give you a 4 ohm load which will look like a 2 ohm load to the amps, that would be a lot better. you would end up with 3200 watts from those amps. that would be a sick *** system. and you'd be at just about the limit of those speakers . - Go for it. -

2 dual 4 ohm subs give a final load of 1 ohm. Running a single amp, it will see 1 ohm. If you strap another amp on it, it will still see 1 ohm, but each amp sees 1/2 that impedance, so each amp will be .5 ohm.

To run 2 subs and 2 amps and keep each amp at 1 ohm, you will need dual 2s. That way you can just run 1 amp per sub at 1 ohm each, or run the pair strapped at 2 ohms, giving each amp a 1 ohm load.

Hope that helps.
