Just picked up a brand new RD Heavyweight and the thing cant take any power //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif Its in 3.5 cubes at 32HZ with 87 sq. inches of port, firing up port to the rear in an SUV. It is being pushed by one of my Sundown 3000Ds at 1 ohm. It is an SQL version with a single spider and a longer coil I believe. I took out my CD Omega which played fine and swapped it out for the HW without changing any settings and it sounds like its bottoming out all the time. Any suggestions? Is it my box?

yep 15" sorry. IT seems to make the worst noises on higher notes too which is weird to me. Anything around 60-70HZ sounds the worst but it makes the noise on the lower notes too.

I'm almost wondering if the coil wasnt shimmed tight enough or something during the building process because its brand new. I may make a video of it later today to show you guys what I mean.

ive had the 55mm and 65mm like u have and mine sounds fine. doesnt bottom out or unload until like 30hz or so since my box is tuned to 44hz. if i plug one port and tune ti 36hz i never bottom it out

Try pulling the sub and listen closely to it while playing it on low power, free-air
I plan on pulling it and doing this later after I get back from my parents house. I will definitely update the thread after that. What do these like for box size and tuning?

You do realize you can't bottom out a HeavyWeight right? You will actually hit the spider before you bottom a heavyweight out.

What you hear is the coil hitting the sides. Unless you have a problem with the heavyweight. But a perfect heavyweight will not bottom out and if you hear a popping noise you are sending a clipped signal and your causing the coil to "coil rock" from left to right. You should have gotten the coil guide to help this problem on single spider setups.
