Heatsink, or no heatsink!

Hi, Cedric Martin is my name and I am, obviously, a new member of this Forum. I am seeking help from the knowledgable members of this forum for the following reason.

I have a "94 Chevrolet S-10 truck which had the standard GM Delco radio when new. The Delco radio is now defunct and I am trying to install a Jensen CD2010X in its place. Everything was going fine; I obtained the correct wiring connectors for both the radio and the S-10 and having soldered these together the radio works perfectly.

However, in a brain dead moment, I failed to dry install the radio in its new housing in the dash. I had dry installed the radio in the installation kit prior to installing the kit in the dash, but it never occurred to me that the radio might be too long to fit in the dash. The radio sticks out about 1/2" when it is pushed in as far as it will go.

Now, on the rear of the radio is a fairly large heatsink that if it were removed, would then allow the radio to go in far enough.

I have been told, by someone who I think may be doing a lot of guess work, that you only need that heatsink it you are running the radio through an external amplifier. My thoughts are, that if that were the case, then the radio manufacturer would not have put the heatsink on the radio to begin with, that you would purchase one at the same time as you purchased the amplifier. Am i right?

If I am right and the heatsink stays, then where can I get an extender for the installation kit.

Yes, one did come with the kit I have, but the opening for the radio is way bigger than the Jensen radio that I have.

I have called Jensen and they refer me to Audiovox. I call Audiovox and they say that they no longer own Jensen and so no longer service the radio, or have parts for it.

I have looked on line, and actually purchased a couple of extenders, but they are always too big. The universal installation kits that I have looked at all have the same Issue.

The opening in an extender for the Jensen, would need to be 1 3/4 " x 6 3/4".

The smallest I have found to date, is 2 1/8" x 7 1/8".

If anyone has any suggestions on how I can solve this problem, I would be eternally grateful.

Cedric
