when i crank my truck and leave it running, the subs make a thumping sound with the engine. (volume has to be at zero) its not really loud though. and they pop when i crank the truck( turn the key to run)

is there any fix to this or is it just one of the normal things associated with car audio???

sounds like a grounded rca or a broken/loose rca at the amp or jsut a ground loop thats internal to the amp 'malfunction' //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif I recently had this with an amp swapping the amp alone fixed the prob

Your amp may have failed. A competent shop should be able to diagnose the issue in under 5 minutes either way. You didn't necessarily do...

Then I don't really seen the need to run a ground directly from the alt, but given your situation, it can't hurt.
