headunit wiring help

looking for some help wiring my headunit.

I have a mitsubishi galant and a pioneer head unit

Im having trouble wiring to get it work ok. I got it to turn on but thats about it

On the wiring part that goes in the back of the head unit theres yellow,black,orange,blue,red, white, white with black stripe, grey, grey with black stripe, green, green with black stripe

and the other side has the

red, green, green with stripe, purple, purple with stripe, white, white with stripe, blue, grey , grey with stripe, yellow, orange and orange with a stripe

sorry for the dumb question but any help getting this done would be appreciated

You need to clarify what you are asking. The description makes no sense. The wires coming out of the HU should be: red, yellow, black, orange, blue.

Are you asking what the colors are for the factory harness that goto the speakers? Or do you have a wiring adapter that plugs into the factory harness and the colors of the adapter dont match the colors coming out of the HU?

Ok usually the adapters have wires that have fine print on them that describes what that wire is for. It seems that the speaker wires from the adapter to the car's harness are crossed.

Since the HU powers on and seems to operate properly... you can assume that the power wires are correct. Now youll need to figure out the 8 wires that goto the speakers. In the past I have used a AA battery to locate speakers. Just start hooking up pairs of wires to the batt and listen real closely.

Stay away from the power side of the adapter and make sure key is off or D/C the car's battery. The AA battery is only 1.5 volts and is not enough to damage anything.

Or just consult a detailed wiring diagram.

I'm sure that if you have a harness they should match your HU. usually white and grey are front the one with the black stripe is the negative. then green and purple are rear. all other colors should match up red, yellow, black and blue. I suggest before you don't guess on anything cause you could burn all kinds of things including your lights

if you are looking for factory colors and what they mean go to the12volt.com and put in your vehicle and click stereo install it will give you all of your wiring colors and what they do

ok thanks for all the info, i was just a little confused because my old head unit matched up perfect , and the new one i have doesnt have the purple wires
