Headunit to fusebox

I am installing a dvd/navigation/bluetooth unit into my car. The manufacturer recommends to connect the until directly to the fuse box (as well as the normal power connection). This might be a dumb question, but how exactly can I do this? Do I just wrap the wire around the metal prongs of a fuse in the box?

Thats what I thought too, but wiring it like that, the HU will not turn on. I called JVC and they said the unit has to also be connected to the fuse box.

Buy a test light at walmart. Probably less then $10.

Ground the light and touch your fuses. When the light goes on then you have power. I would also check which fuse your touching...check the fuse rating. Then for your acc turn on do the same thing with your keys in the acc/on position. When the light goes on, then keep it there and turn the keys off. If the light goes off then you have your power accessory wire.

Personally I wouldnt hack up the fuse box. If you must do it this way, trace the wire out of the fuse box and buy some splicers.

They go over the wire (leaving the stock wire intact) then you add your new wire. Some crimp..some clamp. Just make sure its solid.

This way you can take it off later and you didnt cut your stock wiring.

Using a "add a fuse" is far from hacking up ur fuse box..

To find a switched 12v look at your vehicles fuse diagram and pick a fuse that is only on when the car is..Often used is a radio , climate control, cig lighter(some) ect..

So the add a fuse will just replace whatever fuse that is currently in a 12v slot?

Also, if I connect the headunit to the 12v at the fuse box, will the unit always be powered up? If so, how would I get it to switch on/off when the ignition is on or off?

I think I just answered one of my questions. I would remove a fuse from the box, then slide it into the add a fuse. THEN connect it back to the fusebox. Correct?

Your second question was already answered. You use the "add a fuse" device on a fuse that is only "hot" when the key is in the Accessory or Run position. It won't leave your head unit on when the car is off.
