Headunit and subs fine, but what happened to my mids?

this shit makes no sense. How can you short something when you never even messed with the wiring before.
I'm pretty sure they don't know the answer, i doubt it's a short.
it could very well be a short that caused the internal amp on the HU to turn off..

so stop posting "help"

dont you just hate it when something goes wrong and you can't figure it out.

I would do this list

1)check fuses :head unit and car

2) check out all of the connections to the speakers and wiring

3)check behind HU harness may have come loose

so... if i just pull the first plastic cover off i can get to the harness, so i did...and unplugged my headunit, and plugged the stock back in....turned it on and everything works just fine. Either my wiring somehow managed to wiggle loose and short out somewhere(doubtful), or maybe i have a problem with my headunits internal amp? The main thing that confuses me is why it worked until i shut it off, then never came back on. I guess ill have to look into the wiring for that indash i have after all... this headunit is kinda useless unless i bought a small amp to push my mids....but for me thats just a waste of money.

I know this is pushin it real far but.... how different are internal amps from brand/model? i have like 7 pioneers,an aiwa and a sony in my closet...i just really like the HU im runnin now and have used it for a long time without any problems

most aftermarket radios have what is called a sledgehammer circuit in it when you short out one speaker wire to ether the other polarity wire or to the ground it will kill the sound to all the speakers be happy it did this rather than letting all the magic smoke out of the radio. I am not sure if that is a iso-din install where you need to take the entire dash out or if you can just use the keys to pop out the deck but just pop out the deck take a dmm and hook one of the probes to a ground and use the other to start probing all the speaker wires if you find one that is ground bingo there is the culprite not sure if you will find it being a pinched wire or what. If you just put the deck in and it is the first aftermarket deck the speakers have gotten power from and you have been playing it with the radio cranked past clipping levels you may have fryed out one of the speakers that is linking the leads together making the circuit that will contain you unhooking all the speaker wires and hooking them all up sepratly till you can find out what one it is and see if it is the lead going to the driver or the driver itself. couple things you could having going on there thats where I would start. sounds harder than it is might be a entire hour of work tops if you do it right. If you need any help hit me up on aim munkytruks I am on just about every night can simplify things a bit for you if you need

This is if it hapands again. from reading your last post my guess is it was in the speakers and the deck needed to be reset before the sledgehammer circuit would reset. I am guessing you have a coil that is about to go in one of your mids. Remember not to play your music past about 75% of your volume on your deck or your clipping the signal in most decks.
