ive used quite a bit of headphones lately, due to my purchase of the new video ipod. ive used some in ear's(lower end sonys, Ultimate ears super fi.3's and super fi.5's!!! and i used the shure e2c's) out of all the in ears' i tryed, i deffinetly liked the super fi.5's the best, but they also are over a 100dollars more than my second choice pick, being the super fi.3's and the sq wasnt a big enough difference to justify the amount of extra money. *all of them did a great job as far as sound isolation goes though* also the super fi.5's utilzed dual micro drivers to cover different frequencies*much like the shure e3c's/e5c's
after using the super fi.3's for a few weeks, i decided i wanted some light over ear headphones too gain a little bass output*the super fi.5's did a pretty good job bass wise though* but i ended up trying out some of my freinds higher end grado's(dont remember what model, but they sounded very very nice. they also had a 200+ price tag, and didnt cup my whole ear instead pushing down uncomfterbly on parts.
i ended up buying the bose tri-ports, due to the fact that they weigh nearly nothing, and i can keep them on my head all day without any comfert issues. im very happy with them. although they cost 150 dollars*ouch* they are well worth the money in my oppinion. im not 100% i would have bought them though if it wasnt for the 50dollar gift card i had for compusa. but so far they have treated me very good. they dont offer active noise cancellation like the quite comfort 2's, but they do utilize the same internal speakers, and once you have the volume slightly up, they do a great job at blocking out outside noise. my only complaint is that they tend to have a hissing noise if your outside in the wind.
