Head Units and Androids.... Please Help Me Understand!

Hello,

So I'm looking for a new head unit for my VW. I'm looking for a double-DIN with a screen, and am trying to find a way to use the navigation services of my phone (Galaxy S5) through the head unit. I hear about all of these programs, (MirrorLink, AppRadio, MobileLink, etc), but can't really make any sense of them. It seems like virtually none of them are officially compatible with the S5, yet I see videos of people using it... Furthermore, are these applications actually using the navigation programs of the phone or separate programs?

Basically, what features do I need to look for?
