Head unit wattage

Most head units always say 50wx4. But I notice here that it says 22 watt RMS, with 50 peak. is that how it is with most head units?

And under what conditions is it actually 22 watt RMS.

As in, if I had it 62/62, its seeing a lot more than 22 isnt it?

If I understand correctly most manufactures overembelish the output in terms of wattage...I've learned to not pay so much attention to peak and more to continious or Rms.

yes most manufacturers post peak ratings to capture attention.

headunit power is not that clean regardless. even that 22 watts rms is still distorting your speakers.

amp your speakers and you'll hear a world of difference.

I will be amping my speakers.

I was just curious as to how much louder they will be when I do amp them. 75x2 with an orion 3002

ya the 22w rms is pretty standard, and lame.. if you amped em 75rms they wont be just louder but they will sound cleaner too.. definatly a good idea.

Look in the manual of the head unit, it will usually list at what THD the output was tested at. IIRC it is typically at about 5%.
