Head unit stopped working

I have an older Sony CDX-M610 head unit that stopped working recently, man has it been annoying to drive around listening to air //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/waycrazy.gif.f4a380c3f94043939fd369defd9e6be2.gif lol.

Anyway, the weird thing is the top half still lights up and works, it's the bottom half that's dead. Here's a pic

I tried changing the radio fuse and the fuse at the back of the heat unit to no avail, any advice?

^^ it's a 10 year old sony , buy a different deck. Try alpine or excelon. You will hear a difference instantly just by switching decks. I know , i did a direct swap test. Sony vs kenwood. Same amps and speakers. Just swapped out decks , i was louder and cleaner instantly. and when i swapped out the kenwood for the alpine it was even better.

By deck you mean head unit right? So it is possible to use the same speakers and amp with the new unit??

if you are just running speakers off the deck it will be fine , but if you are running multiple amps you will need a better deck. This one only has one amplifier connection.

Okay, I am only running one amp so I think I'm good! Going to pick it up in a couple days. Do I need to buy another main cable or can I use the old one?

Also I bet I know whats wrong with that deck.

There is a ribbon cable that goes from the face to inide the unit, These would break over the years you can get them on ebay for about 20.00 bucks shipped and about a hour of your time.

I have replaced several of these on the M600 units.

op, i would spend some extra money and get a better hu, one that gives you the capacity to upgrade later, the alpine mentioned would be a nice purchase. depending on the price of course.

yeah 100.00 shipped complete in the box, installed once comes with everything. Its a nice deck that I bought for my truck and I kept it when I sold the truck.

The unit is in excellent condition and works as good as it looks, no button wear or anything.
