Head unit stolen need installation advice on new unit

I apologize up front I checked the stickies but was not able to solve my problem. I need to make sure I've got everything in order.

Car: 1999 Mazda Protege

Head Unit: Pioneer DEH-P470MP

I bought the wiring harness for the pioneer which is a hand me down from my friend. When the previous stereo was stolen they cut the factory harness, so I am wondering what the best thing to do is. Do I simply match up the wires on the harness to the remaining wires from the factory harness?

Any articles, tutorials or suggestions would be appreciated as this is my first install of a head unit. Thanks for your time.

From my experience:

Well basically what they cut was wires going to a plug that plugged into your factory radio. Typically, you buy a harness from the store that plugs into that and gives you colored wires which you solder/connect to the corresponding wires from the aftermarket radio.

What you can do is SKIP the harness that plugs into the plug that the thieves chopped off, and just connect the wires you have straight to the radio. Preferably you should extend them unless they seem long enough. Try looking up the color codes for you car, they might just be the same but who knows.

You're basically gonna have:

1 wire for constant power

1 wire for ignition power

1 wire for illumination (dim for lights)

then speaker wires,

2x front left, 2x front right, 2x rear left, 2x rear right

The color codes may be the same as the ones coming from the radio, it wouldnt hurt to just peak and see

The chances of that are extremely slim.

Look it up. And disconnect your car battery when wiring it all up.
