Head Unit Removal - Tacoma '96 Ext

I'm a newbie to car audio (in any form) so I thought it wise to consult with the experts here before proceeding with the removal or the old HU and installation of the new HU. I own a Toyota Tacoma '96 Ext. Cab, with a pocket beneath the HU (if you have one you know what I'm referring to), I just need to know if I have to remove any of the dash and/or console pieces to get at the receiver.

I also was a little daunted when I saw all the wires included with the package, though I'm assuming those are for more advanced setups. I currently have just the stock speakers (no amps, no subs, no changers...etc) and I'm hoping that most of the connections from the older receiver will plug right back into the new receiver (plug and play), is this correct? Any tips you can give would be great, thanks.

If you need more info just ask, but I'm betting this is the simplest of all possible audio upgrades.

well i have prev. owned a toyota....the thing that sux about them is your going to have to remove almost the whole lower dash to get to your h/u///basicly just look for all the screws you can to take off..remove them and take everything off thenthere should be a gold looking piece that holds your h/u in place....just remove the screws and out comes your h/u...you'll probably need to get an adapter for you h/u since your going to bue using a new h/u....or you can run new wires...hope i've helped....let me know if you have any questions goddyd4me@hotmail.com...good luck

Thanks for the help Goddyd this that's exactly what i wanted to know... it's also what i was afraid of... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/banghead.gif.8606515f668c74f6de0281deb475b6fd.gif

So I've got to remove the black console piece that surrounds the stereo, air vents, cup holder, a/c etc? It looks like someone pryed it off before ....the thing comes off about a 1/4 of an inch and then won't budge....I'm afraid i'm gonna break the **** thing. Maybe i should pickup a Hayne's Manual for my truck?

Anyway, thanks...
