Head unit questions

So I have a kenwood ddx374bt. It was a lower end ,for kenwood, when I bought it. I'm not sure with today's technology if there is a cut off so to speak for good vs crap head units. Other than being able to go active what's the difference between most of these decks, or is there one? Other than an active network is sound quality comparable, do some brands just sound better than others? Been out of it for awhile and just looking for some answers.

Number of outputs, number of EQ bands, crossovers, what quality of music it can play, Bluetooth options, types of inputs...aux, USB and others, display types, compatibility with factory car options like steering wheel controls...

Ok how about I have a kenwood pioneer alpine jvc and Sony. All are 13 band eq 4v preout have built in xovers, and inputs are the same USB ect. I personally am not concerned about the extras in this scenario. If this were the case , are some brands not as good as others, do they have different sounds? I know what I'm trying to ask getting it as apost may just not be coming across right lol.

That is where personal taste and preferences come into play and why you should visit a few car audio stores. Play with as many head units as you can and the one that appeals to you is the one you should get. Most are going to do the same thing, most are going to sound similar... a few will stand out as superior. I like Kenwood eXcelon head units... Pioneer is probably the most popular brand... you just got to get your hands on them, try them, play with them and ask yourself what you want them to do for you.

Yes, some brands are NOT as good as others. Stick in the list of brands you listed and you will be fine. Sound and build quality can be compromised with your less popular head units. Dare I say , your BOSS brands and other similar brands.
