Head unit install problem..

I just installed a Pioneer 6800(i think) head unit in my friends '99 2 door Accord. Everything went great, we listened to it for a while and he left..A couple minutes later he called saying the lights that light his spedo/tach/oil/gas guages didn't light up at all. He brought it over today for me to look at it and everything else on the insturment panel lights up except the guages with a bar that moves I guess. Anyone know what happened?

Don't know about nothing lighting up the first time, but I have had sumthing similar happen with all the guages not moving. It might sound weird but hey it happened... I had pressed the reset button for my trip meter when my car was off and it did some crazy moving of the needles and then they wouldnt move with car running but did same thing again and it like reset. Yea weird but it worked haha.

Guess I'll give it a try haha..it's so weird though how like the turn signal lights still come on, brights light, seatbelt indicators and all that stuff..just no illumination at all behind the moving guages

Pull the head unit and look for untaped wires. Once you've insulated any bare wire you find, check your vehicle fuses. There are illumination wires in the radio harness. Chances are a bare wire grounded out and blew a fuse.

Yep check the illumintation wires behind the deck. Did you use an adapter harness? If not, then try unpluging the deck, check the fuse boxes under the dash and under the hood then after replacing blown ones try to turn the lights on and see if they light up. If they do than one of the wires you connected to in the harness is incorrect. Pull out a multimeter and Identify the wire, cut it, and hook up the correct one.

you most likely blew a fuse.

my guess is you used the dimmer wire as the ground wire for teh radio.

Haha wow sounds like a stupid mistake..I'll check everything when he swings by tomorrow, thanks guys.
