I bought an alpine hu from my neighbor and he installed it for me. I powered on fine, but it did not store memory or any settings. I have to manually turn on the sterieo and re set all the xovers on the hu over again. I checked the wireing and all the speaker wires were ok, the red power wires were hooked up with soome yellow ones. There are two blue wires which one is the one that is the remote power and the other i think is the power antena. there is alos an orange wire in the stock wires and dont know what that is for. Can some one help me wire this so i can store my memory and settings once? I would really apreciat it!

I looked at the alpine site and down loaded the manual and every thing seems to be wired right. Could there be some thing else wrong like a fuse or some thing?

It's not hooked up right, period. What kind of car is it? Did he cut out the factory plug, or did he use a wire harness? You said the red power wires were hooked up with some yellow ones; do you mean both wires are connected together?

yes he used a wire harness for a 95 honda civic. As stated above the red and yellow wires are hooked up together into a big wad so its 4 wires hooked up togther.

Figures. What happened is that he blew the fuse for the constant (yellow) wire. Since he was clueless and couldn't figure out what happened, he tried connecting it to the red wire instead, and got it to work. He then lumped everything together and called it good (after all, it wasn't HIS car). Trouble is, the red wire has power only when the key is on, so the head unit loses all its settings as soon as the car is off.

First, take apart that monkey mess and reconnect the wires, yellow to yellow and red to red. Make sure they're well insulated, then find the blown fuse in your vehicle. It might not be labelled as a radio fuse, and might be in the fuse box under your hood. Replace that, and it should cure your problem.

By the way, the orange wire is an illumination wire. If there's an orange or orange/white wire on the Alpine head unit's harness, connect it to that. If not, then just tape it off.

I hooked up the wires like you said red to red yellow to yellow. the i checked the fuse and it was ok and i changed it any way. the sterio would not turn on . the only way it will turn on is when all 4 red and yellow wires are wired together. it will turn on but not store any memory. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif

its because there are 2 power wires a constant and an ignition controlled. the constant source is for the clock/memory. if it is not hooked to a hot wire then you get exactly what is happening to you mang.

Find and replace the blown fuse. Like I said before, it may not be labelled "radio", and may be in a fuse box under the hood. If you don't have a digital multimeter, get the pliers out and pull every fuse until you find the blown one. If you do have a multimeter, there's a quicker way.

well every thing in my fuse box is labled and the radio fuse is replace and i will look at the rest of the fuses later on today. Also the clock in my car not in the HU is aslo not storing memory. Could this be some thing wrong with the battery or wire or some thing?

The yellow wire (constant 12V) is used to store settings and the run the clock. Every time you turn the car off is like unplugging the headunit and plugging it back in.
