Head unit DACs

Does anyone know if DACs make a huge difference... I mean yes, a crappy one is crappy but will a nice 24bit dac (ie Eclipse 8454) make a huge difference compared to a 1 bit (my x959 is quad 1 bit)? and would it be worth an upgrade to get 24 bit?

IMHO that Eclipse is an all around better deck than that Kenwood regardless.

To sum up, a 1 bit dac can be just as good, or better, than a 24 bit dac.

Name 1 high end deck that uses anything less that a 20-24bit dac....

This argument is OLD and is proven in another post as well as other sq dedicated forums. 1 bit can be every bit as good as a 24 bit if the right oversampling is used ect.. will not go into details, the details are in the other many page post.

yah I read the other post... it's like ford vs chevy.... but I have 4 1 bit DACs hehe... but I want a new deck anyways... I want nobs and spinning things.. the x959 has a nice EQ too

All I'm going to say is that all your DAC answers can be found in that link to ECA posted in the original thread (for those who are lazy: http://forum.elitecaraudio.com/showthread.php?threadid=95760&pagenumber=1 ). Werewolf is one of the, if not the, most intelligent person on all car audio forums combined. Literally a genius, and humble to boot.

If you are happy with it -keep it.... wonder why they used 4 1 bit DAC's over a single 1bit?

no idea but I'd like to get a new deck.. I want rotary volume and a new look.. I've had the kenwood for some time now... nice deck though...

i'll tell ya once you go eclipse i doubt you'll go back to anything else. search ebay for an eclipse deck. i paid $200 shipped for my 8443.

straight from a deck i wont argue about 1 bit vs 20-24 bit but after the deck (which stiil in digital form in every case i know of)where you go into real digital processing 24 bit is better to process for a wider range of settings. course you can have a single bit player with a digital out (by passing the decks dac) into a now 24 bit dac processor. i hear alot of tweaks preffer the eclipse all in one decks better than the alpine all in 1 decks (time elignment,x over, eq) even in the order of greatness between 1 bit and 24 bit the higher end more complex units that process in 24 bit like the alpine f1 the eclpise top 2 models the pioneer 9 thingy lol heck even the older clarions.
