Head spinning with sub and amp issue

So basically I've had kicker speakers for the last month or so and a sub for about a year now and I've never had any problem with them what so ever until the other day. All of a sudden while driving home my sub started cutting in and out. It wasn't static-y or anything like that, it simply would not hit then hit now and then. It started hitting less and less and less. I thought i might have burned out a coil in my sub so I went and bought a new Rockford p3 12'' sub thinking it'd solve all my problems, however after I hooked it up IT STILL DIDN'T WORK. I checked my amp (kicker cx300.1 650watt amp) and it was in protection mode. Today I went through and redid all my connections throughout the system (under hood, in trunk, behind deck) and now the amp isn't in protection mode but the sub just hums as soon as I connect via aux and still does not hit. It has a very staticy muffled and quiet hit but is no where close to normal. Anyone know what it could be at this point?

measure voltage at the battery and then measure at the amp connections. do it with the car off and then when running. also with the radio off and the radio on. But to me it sounds like the damage was already done.
