Hdmi or svga cable for using my HDTV as a monitor for my laptop?

My tv is a samsung ln52a750. My computer is a Dell studio xps 16 with a 512 mb video card, and the specs say a native resolution of Of 1366x768. So just wondering what toorder to get the best picturepossible. Also the laptop can play blu Ray even tho not at full resolution but will they still look ok?

hdmi so you can have sound through the tv as well

just looked up the model number, thats a 1080p lcd, so set your video to display 1920x1080 or as close to that as possible

i run 1920x1200 on a 28" monitor using crappy integrated graphics

you should have no problems running 1920x1080 over hdmi.

Thanks guys. So the resolution that the specs stated as 1366x 768 are for the LCD or what? The graphics card is a 512 mb radeon HD 3670 if that matters at all.

Alsoguys I noticed there's a few studio xps 16 models. The one I got had this processor

that's the resolution for the laptop screen. since you are using the tv as an external monitor you can set the resolution to 1920x1080 and it will work fine

Gotcha. So does having a good video card help for what im doing or is that more for gaming.

Also. Do you guys think I made a mistake by choosing the Dell over this asus?? I was about 2 seconds away from buying this , but the Dells processor and blu Ray hooked me in. The graphics card on this one I'm assuming is pretty nice..??

yes the graphics card will definately help if you are trying to play HD content on a 1080p external monitor

although, the graphics card in the asus you linked is much better than the the 3670 in your dell, like 2x better

Yea man I had a feeling it was a bit better but overall do you think the Dell is more complete as far as just an everyday computer , I do basically zero gaming but if there's people that think the asus is a better computer I might change my mind

the only reason I had to do this now was because I had to use the credit while they gave it to me which was $1100. Otherwise I would of had to wait til they get fully stocked again on oct 22nd because they literally had 5 laptops and ZERO desktops due to windows 7. So what do you think?

I went yesterday and bought an Asus N71gx with the GeForce GTX 260m 1 gig dedicated ram card on it, shit's faster than my desktop! It had bloatware on it, (ie:vista/asus bullshit) so I just installed Win 7 on it. Smokes now without the bullshit! Came with 6 gig ram, so more than I really needed but fuck it right? I totally got bungholed on the price though, I paid 1400....but I am leaving out of the country in a few days so I didnt have the time to order from Tiger Direct, where its around 1200....so meh.

Yea man it was nice. The one I was looking at was the 71 fx as well but only 4gb memory and the same vid card. That's what was really making me debate the buy. I haven't got it yet so I still might make a swap. It's a tough call for me. Did u see the 2 that I linked? ( Dell and asus) what aee your opinions. Yeah I considered that lower model Asus, but I was a whore for the larger screen on the one I bought. And I didn't like the look of that one either, it seemed to be less profesional looking than mine. I strongly suggest removing all the bloatware, and 2nd partition that comes with it from the factory.. Put Win 7 on that shit mang!

Yea i was nt crazy about the looks either. Just talked to best buy. And they can't find one anywhere in the district to have transfered. So I'm stuck with the Dell. so that's gonna have to do I guess. But a plus for sure is windows 7. Can't wait for that
