hdc3 prob

yes the guy i bought it off of only had it for 3 months but the funny thing is when i wired the coils together it read 1.5 ohms when i first got it now its 1.8 and not as loud as it was, it use to open my roof consel all the compartments now im lucky to get one to open i dont get it..

well now that i moved the box and looked at it there was a towel in the vent and its alot louder than it was but it dont explain y the coils read that has anyone ever checked what the coils wired to gether come out to

First things first, touch the leads of your DMM together to get their resistance. Then subtract that number from the reading you are getting from the sub.

For example, touch leads together=.3 ohms

Leads on sub=1.8 ohms

1.8-.3=1.5 ohms

Secondly, just because a sub is dual 2 ohm doesn't mean each coil is going to read exactly 2.0 ohms.

weird smell comin from the sub like its blown? and i run it at 1 ohm and it reads out 1.8 i have a ap15001d thats not been pushed more than half gain so i dont think the sub is blown i hope not atleast..
I think if i learned one thing in my short career of Car Audio its that people rage when you say i only set my gains halfway or 1/3.. L2 use DMM Imo and properly set them

So having my subs sitting outside of my box will have a different imp. than having my same subs sitting in my box?
I'll assume you're being a smart ***.

The commonly used term 'Box Rise' is the sum of your subwoofer(s) impedance and the additional acoustic impedance presented by the enclosure and the vehicle. You may wire 4 subs to a 1.0 ohm load on your amplifier, play the system and find out that your “Box Rise” is actually 4.5 ohms. That 1000w amplifier is now pushing between 200w and 350w! That does not mean that your car is not loud-as-hell; you could be breaking crap off your neighbor’s wall.An informative experiment would be to test your box as it sits and then push it against the back of the trunk or cargo area…maybe 1” from the port opening and test it again. Your numbers will come out way different due to changing acoustic load presented by the new location. Moving the enclosure around the interior can greatly affect the SQ and SPL of your system.
