hd radio

i just bought a sony hd radio tuner for my sony head unit and things arent going as well as i hoped for. after doing the connections i am only getting reception on 2 channels. could it be because of my area or what. after connecting the antenna back to my head unit instead of my hd tuner i noticed the reception has gotten worse as well. so im thinking it is possible that my connecting has messed it up. not sure what i couldve done wrong though. i know that i did connect the 12v wire to a 12v that isnt energized at all times and the directions told me to connect it to 12v that is energized even when car is off, but i dont see how that would effect hd reception. so if anyone could give me some pointers that would be great, thanks.
