WHATS A HOME THEATER?
are they worth it? right now i got music hd channel and all the local channels in hd. but no discovery or hbo or any others lol will it be worth paying the difference to add those channels? i have an option of adding discovery and i think like 5 more for like 5.99 a month and/or hbo for liek 12 a month extra

Discovery HD Theatre, INHD and INHD2 are awsome channels. DHDTV has mostly science based shows which are usually behind the scenes style and discovery shows. INHD has concerts, (classic) movies, animal shows and vacation destinations. I watched a doc about a ship scrap yard in india, then i watched a team's experiance in the Baja 1000. My only complaint is that the good shows are only on once and at some wierd hours, so a DVR is key.

Those the channels are the main ones i watch.

here's what i don't understand about hdtv. and i'm not here to knock it, or say it doesn't look better, because it does...

but here's the thing, if you're on a standard tv(as i am) and you see a commercial for HDTV the tv they show, actually DOES look better....

so if I can see the difference on my regular t.v., why can't i just see hdtv without an hdtv?

Im pretty sure that digital cable will look better on a sd than an analog signal. Maybe the commercial your seeing is digital.

I recently got a panasonic 30" widescreen hdtv. its awesome. Its a $800 tv and i got it for $300;)

Oh and a sd tv tops out at 480p. Thats the highest resolution you can get. On a hdtv you have 720p 1081i and 1080p.

A sd tv simply cannot handle a hd signal.

so then are they not broadcasting at fullest potential(sp) on a regular t.v. because for an hdtv commercial they ALWAYS look way better than the show you're currently watching. i don't know it just doesn't make sense

its marketing.

look up HD on wiki

standard TV = 480i

Progressive scan DVD players = 480 p

HDTV = 720p, or 1080i......and 1080P is coming soon

the p and the i stand for progressive and interlaced.

any more info just holla

i think maybe the HDTV stations get an uncompressed format of the commercials.. like the masters straight from the commercial's studio? whereas some TV shows, although shown in HD might've been encoded to HDTV from a different format, thus maybe losing a LITTLE quality? i dunno.. im not even sure if the commercials look better than the HDTV features themselves.. i know watching the news and football games on the local HDTV channels is awesome.. the new reporters and football players look like they were recorded to a DVD without loss of quality or something.. this is on my 50-inch panasonic plasma hdtv //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Be aware that if a show on a hd channel (ex espnhd) is displayed in 4:3 its not hd. If your seeing it in 16:9 its hd.

no no no, i'm saying that the commercials for hdtv look better on MY NON-HDTV tv, so what i don't understand is, if i can get a better picture in a commercial, why can't i get it all the time?

if that still doesn't make sense, i don't know if i can explain it over the internet...
