Having trouble with my Focal 130KR

A few weeks ago I noticed it started so smell like some plastic was burning, and a few minutes later there was coming smoke out of one of the crossovers. This only happens when I play loud. I've had this system for a few months and haven't had this problem before.

What could be causing this problem?

Running more rms power to the crossovers than rated/heating them up,Frying them

You may be able to replace that, and be fine if you are good with a solder gun,and be back in business, and lower to the rms rating on them, and they will last a bit longer

Wow this scares me i have focal krx2 6.5 2ohm. Plan on hooking them up to a ppi650.2 . They will be getting 325rms each side. They are rated for 100rms
Just keep gain down, and place those crossovers to where they can get some air to stay cooler. You dont have to place that much on them.Use a DMM, and place rated rms on them.I place my crossovers just under the dash ziptyed to gain access as well.(Not in doors,or in kicks,or up high under the carpet in floor boards) dont get much air to keep cool, and in doors, run risk of moisture/getting wet,as well as no access, and collecting heat

Oh wow, thanks for all the answers! The amp is a Ground Zero GZHA 4200XII, giving 140Wrms to each side.

When I set gain I usually use my ears, but will try with DMM later today if I have time for it.

They sound good when I lower the volume, so I don't think it will be necessary to replace that?

Well this is embarassing, I had marked the tweeter cables as input.. Yesterday I set gain by DMM, and noticed there was no mid from the passenger door. So I removed the door panel, and facepalmed. Thanks for all the help guys
