If you had a shop do it, that might not be too far off...makning something like that isn't exactly a quick project and the chances of f'ing it up and having to scrap some or all of the pieces and start over are pretty good. 3/8" isn't thick enough either. Not nearly.

The other drawback is weight. Plexi is much heavier than MDF.

I've put plexiglass windows in MDF enclosures before with good results. That's where the scrap bin comes in reeeeeal handy. =)

I would think that plexi glass would flex more. But I'm probably wrong.... just having that transparency makes it seem weak in my eyes. I like how it looks though, although getting it to look nice would be a pain in the butt. Gluing and everything, I can't even imagine. MDF you can just cover up
