ok, i bought a pci to pcmcia adapter and orinoco card on ebay (for a certain reason //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif ). turns out, the adapter i bought is only 16 bit compatible, but my orinoco card is cardbus. is there any way i can get this to work or will i have to get a new adapter?

Well, your best option would have been to get the proper card to begin with. The Netgear WG311 has Atheros chipset, and they could be found at any major store for a while. PCMCIA-wise, I have a Proxim 8470wd and it does everything that I want it to. I know I didn't help your situation a whole lot, but there are two cheap options for you to consider, both under $50.
