Hard Drive with HU USB

Im not sure where to post this so hopefully this will be fine...

I have an Alpine IXA W407 Digital Media Center,meaning no CD/DVD slot. I have an external hard drive that I would like to use for my iTunes and some movies I have. Does anyone use a HD with their HU's? Will iTunes work the same as it does on an iPod? What about sound for my movies,will it carry thru with a USB cable?

I have a 60gb HDD connected to my HU..never failed. Make sure the USB cable is pretty thick...if not it will be hit or miss on the drive spinning up. Also make sure the drive is formatted to FAT32. That should about do it.

I tried my external but it doesn't spin up u just hear clicking unfortunately. The cable does have a 2nd usb for more power would probably work if i connected a cigarette usb charger.

Use a bigger gauge wire...not a flimsy one.

So how does it work with music? Can you see all the info( song title,artist and album)?

It's not the wire because it works on the computer if it can put enough power thru it there than it can put enough thru it anywhere. The problem is my hu doesn't have enough power to run it.
