H/O Alt Opinions!

What I'm saying is you used a 99-04 chevy alt anyways. I would have asked for that specifically and not told them it was for a jetta.
I did tell them that too. And I asked them if I could ship them the bracket that the alternator and the a/c mounts to. Mechman said "I can't help you there. We don't do any jobs like that. But what I can do for you is send you a universal alternator and you can fabricate something to make that mount."

I used washers as spacers mounting my alt too. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/thumbsupwink.gif.129404938effda6ad9cca39e7f4b58a3.gif
THANK YOU. Gosh dang. Everyone rips on it so much. Its a beater winter car. Who gives a fudge what it looks like under the hood. It's a stock ***** as5 1.8l.

Even though. During the summer when I put in the 2nd alt...I might cut tubing to use as spacers.

They sell steel spacers at Lowe's //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

I would get with Nate, he may not even charge you in some cases. How did the EA alt work you? I'm asking because I have one being built right now.
What's his email address? It worked fine until I killed it. It didn't do much at idle though. Pretty much shut off at idle.

I usually just reach him on Facebook, or call man. He always answers both in minutes.

Yeah, I had everything tore apart to get in the universal alt, and the bracket was 2 inches to short on both sides, so I had to put everything back together and get a new bracket. New bracket worked great, but at 10pm when your car is tore apart and you have to use it for work in the morning, you use what you have available for spacers. I've been thinking about swapping them out sometime, but it works, and nobody really ever looks at it.

See that is exactly my reasoning. IT WORKS AND NOBODY LOOKS AT IT. There is no difference between a bunch of washers...a tubing when it's not being seen. But I might change it. I used washers the first time..because we HAD NO IDEA how many to use and where we would need them.

Shit, I agree with that. Use what you got, as long as it works. I was just saying that when you get back to it, they do make spacers for that.

I am definitely going to do it. Biggest reason being...I have to count how many washers I used on the inside and outside...so I use the same amount in the right place when I put it back on to that it lines up with the pulleys...It is very annoying.

I did something very similar with my radiator fan. The e-fan died so I got a clutch fan and made it work. Had to space it out evenly over 4 bolts and I used washers. This is how I know there are spacers lol. Ended up shaking so bad I had to replace the water pump and the timing cover and gasket (and the damn e-fan).

Do it right, do it light. Do it wrong, do it long. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif
