gun ppl? got a new handgun.. need info

ouch
Well, its a relatively large bullet with a relatively low velocity. 820 fps. .40SW has an average velocity of just over 1000fps, and 9mm is in the 1200+ range. I guess Im an idiot for realizing its one of the lower velocity rounds of common pistol cartridges made today.

Cheers.
Lower velocity means less accuracy? They only time that would make sense is at longer rages. A handgun is not a long range weapon. /argument.

HI-Points **** one of the worst guns currently in production. Cheap yes, reliable and great ergonomics? hell no. google it, and you can google how to disasenmle it to. great guns at decent prices are taurus, and S&W also has guns mid price guns $250-$300 sorry for spelling and punctuation I am no suppose to be surfing the net at this time

Hi-point makes a lot of low budget guns, personally I would never buy anything made by them. It gets the job done if you are just using it for home protection etc, but as mentioned they make bulky, heavy guns so you get what you pay for. I have been told that Hi-point guns malfunction/jam a lot (stovepipe jam), but thats only word of mouth.
i have several all with well over 8000 rounds each ( i shoot alot lolz )

and have never had a single 1 jam that wasnt due to fouling or a defective reload. very light weight guns as well not nearly as accurate as my glock 40 with a 8" jarvis comp barrel and laser but still worth even double the price IMO

google lol how many people run out to tell a great story that gets picked up on a websearch vs bad stories? do the math

everyone talks to everyone else about a bad experience

1 in 17 talk to 1 or 2 people about a good experience.

Im not trying to argue, but you asked for facts and I gave them. Relatively heavy bullet, relatively low velocity. If that doesnt spell less accuracy, what, in your opinion, does? Please dont say bullet shape, as you can buy wad cutters, hollow points, FMJ's in just about any caliber round, so that's an irrelevant factor. And you only referring to short range when discussing accuracy is silly. Accuracy is accuracy, and longer range firing only highlights accuracy differences.
Im not suggesting 45ACP is a bad round, its been a solid performing round for many decades. But if we are talking accuracy alone, which we were, its simply not a great performer.

Cheers.

never heard that.. and a few fps within 50yards dont mean much to me, since is home protect/ rec use only

thanks for the info. learned sumthin here
Glad to contribute. Yes, for home protection 45ACP is fine, very good in fact for its knock-down power and price per round. I was simply referring to it in terms of comparison with other rounds as it relates in accuracy. Id much rather be squeezing off 45ACP rounds down the hallway of my home at an intruder than a 9mm, for the knock-down power alone, but again I was simply saying its not considered a highly accurate round (even for pistols).

I would have to agree it is not a high accuracy round. But for the majority of people, it is good enough. My home defense gun is a .45acp basically for knockdown power. 185grain Federal hydroshoks. At 25 yards, it will do the job very well. Short barrel version also. Also keep a 20ga by the bed for the wife. To me a shotgun is best for all around, loaded with shot. Point and shoot in general direction.

To the OP, make sure to wear hearing protection when you go out to practice shooting with it. Mine will literally ring the crap out of your ears, when not wearing any- to the point of temporary deafness.

To your original question: Make sure it's unloaded. This means eject the magazine and pull the slide back a few times. Check the breach for jammed ammo etc. With the slide all the way back, right above the handle there should be a small lever. Flip it up. It might be difficult. This will hold the slide back. Now also on the left side but toward the muzzle is another lever. Tilt the side closest to the muzzle straight up. I'm guessing on your hi-point, it will actually then pull straight out. (On higher dollar guns, it just flips up. On cheaper guns it flips up and then is actually removed from the weapon.)

Now pull the lever above the handle back down. This will cause the slide to go forward to its default place. Then pull the trigger. This will release the slide. You can now pull it towards the muzzle and it will come off. Now the barrel etc is removable and cleanable.
