In the review he built a ported box that was .45 cu.ft. with a single 2" diameter port that was 3.2" long. According to the review those port dimensions tuned the port to 33hz. How is this possible??? According to LinearTeam's own port calculator to get a 33hz tuning out of a 2" diameter port it would have to be 15.446" long. Is he using some new fangled math that noone else knows of?
Anyways....I'm planning on putting each RE8 in its own seperate enclosure and want to port them for maximum output in my friend's Nissan 240sx. BTW....what is the sub's install depth? I'm working with a very tight space. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

the depth is 4" I beleive.

have you got yours in yet?

not too many days ago we started my enclosure.Heres the plans, and whats done so far.

under the rear seat, firing up, using a masonite insert in the upholstery as a loading panel for the subs

approx. 2.5" from the sub cones to the carpet seat bottom.

started by decideing that I could gaina few inches of height by haveing some extention brackets fabricated to raise the back seat up aprrox. 4.5".

building the frame of the enclosure to fit in there, front, back and then sides, we are now fiberglassing in a bottom.

after the bottom is final, figure out the best way to do the ports using fiberglass.

after we get those done and installed, we bolt the top in, and bring out that bondo!

I'm definitely gonna have to get some pics up.

if anyone has any questions about the setup, just ask! its a very interesting project!

I hanv't gotten the subs in yet, but they should be in this afternoon. Talked to UPS yesterday afternoon and the packages are in Portland at the warehouse, but I have to wait for them to be delivered anywhere between 9 AM and 7PM. Who do they think they are...the cable company?!? Oh well, as soon as I get them I'm doin some measurements...some testing...then I'm off to HomeDepot. Since I'm dealing with such small places I'm gonna use 1/2" MDF lined with 2-3 layers of fiberglass. I'm iffy about using a 1" port, but I'm gonna have to resort to using it.

EDIT....

BOOYAH!!! UPS just stopped by and delivered these mini-monsters. For their size, these little buggers are heavy! I like the plastic caps that they put on them to protect the cones. Is there any way to use these caps as grilles???? They have a unique industrial/space age look that will work with the interior of my friends car. Do ya think fiberglass would conform easily to the caps? Anyways....its off for some testing and supplies. Seizure laterz! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

yeah,I'm running into troubles. I forgot that the fantasy measurements that I took and the mdf frame I built were different and realized that I came up with the same same cubic feet 2 different ways; the first time I made the enclosure wedge up at the front, the 2nd time I did something stupid: I forgot to subtract the huge humps in the floor pan!!

I was gonna come right in 1.8 cu.ft. with 39" of port and all 4 subs, then I realized the humps take up about 1 cubic foot.

I'll probably have just 2 cubes BEFORE displacement!

time to either design design external ports or go to using only 3 of them boogers and designing a equal port system on the inside

dang it,I knew I shouldv't cut into the side compartments to gain approx. 8" of width. Maybe I could run my external ports in there.

this stuff gets so confusing having to use programs im not used to, I loose myself

My friend got 4x RE 8s from the sale for his truck powered off a Lanzar OPTI 1000D. He seems to really like them and he's a bass head. I'll get to hear them next month around the 9th when he is in town.

just thought I should sound off about RE

I saw the sale and was looking for 8" subs in the first place

and Scott was very helpful and gave me loads of useful info

and what would be best for my application.I bought 4 of them

and they arrived ahead of sched. and look sweet. I have called

and emailed them a crapload of times and they always had the

info or answer that I needed.

I dont even have the subs hooked up yet(still making boxes)

but if there customer service is any indication of the quality

of there subs Im gonna be //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif more than I allready am.

you guys kicks a$$.

whats the website? I have a 13 w7 that i'm selling cause 1 sub sound different than haveing 2 or 3. And its way ofver priced for the bass it puts out. Will 4 8in re compare to 1 13 w7?

Well 4 8's will be that of or above the cone area of a 12" sub. But dont be quick to compare a $700+ sub with that of four $50 subs. For the amount of power they take, the small box size they need there very good subs.

Make sure you port them (.5cubes 30-32Hz). And heres a review by loyd...
