i baught this sub bout a month ago to install revearse mount in my ranger. Well i had it hooked up to a kicker amp pushing 200rms watts to it and didnt think it was enough power. Ordered new amps and it sat in the box for 3 weeks. a couple days ago i got my new amps and installed them. While tuning everything, i started to hear flapping and turned around to see the cone torn.

ordered new sub, have no use for this. Idk if its fixable or whatever, but i thought id try and get rid of it.

THIS THING WEIGHS 40lbs so shipping is gonna be about $25 USA. PM me for shipping quotes.

Looking for $30+shipping or PM me with offers!

Man I'm not liking this at all. I bought FOUR of these for a trunk install in a Mustang. I am planning on putting two Kicker zx1500.1 on them. 750 watt RMS will probably blow these (they are supposed to handle 1000 in a larger than 1cf enclosure) I'll have 1.5cf per chamber (sealed) and that is supposed increase power handling as the size of the box increases. I do find it hard to believe any sub can perform in less than .5cu as advertised by this sub. The reason I got them was they were specifically made of smaller enclosures, and it was supposed to have a real smooth sound and mine is a SQ build. We will see how long mine last on some decent power. But I have to say my heart sank when I saw this thread. Most likely $400 is going down the tubes before too long with a flimsy cone like that //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/verymad.gif.3f39c5c2fd57527b671fad3efdfac756.gif
Your theory is backwards, for high power handling you need to use a smaller box. on that power they should be around .85-1/0 cu ft at most each per chamber. Plus invest in subwoofer grills to protect your investment. Think about it, unless you have something loose flying around your trunk then you shouldn't have any issues with the cone

The problem with the DIYMA, is the fragile cone. When you stuff this speaker into the recommended shoebox sized enclosure (qtc of .7 is 1/2 cubic foot) the extreme air pressure inside is what warps the cone, especially when you throw lots of power on it.

The idea is that in the larger enclosure, that has less internal air pressure, you should be able to safely run a bit more power to it.

Still, I wouldn't ever run more than 500 watts to one of these, there's just no need.

Am I wrong, but arent most of the ones that I'm seeing split like that in ported enclosures? It sounds like maybe the box was tuned to high and the driver was pushed below the tuning frequency.

I just ordered one the other day and after everything that I have read about the DIYMA12, this particular thread does NOT cause me pause.

Not to mention that their intended for sealed enclosures. I wouldn't put more than 500 to it either. When a sub is efficient, i doesent take tons of power to get it going like most other subs out there, so just b/c it say it can handle 1000watts doesen't mean its needed. Mine hit xmax at under 400 watts in my g/f's SUV

I am NOT necessarily saying that one "Should not go ported" because their are plenty of guys on DIYMA that are running this driver ported and loving it but they are being careful and this sub IS, in fact, the correct choice for thier application.

The problem for the guy that started this thread is that this sub "IS NOT" a good choice for his application. What I'll bet is that he already sort of knew that but at the price, quality and looks of this sub, he couldnt resist it. I mean, hell, look at it mounted backwards. And notice, that he IS NOT trashing it even though it broke on him.

Another thing is after looking at this guys build thread, I'll bet he DID NOT get the tuning frequency wrong. I think he is to good at this stuff to mess that up.

Another interesting thing is that on CA.com, you can find plenty of these that have torn and people are trash talking them but on DIYMA, it seems rare to see a torn one. More SPL guys on CA.com.

This whole thing comes down to choosing the correct driver for your application. Most people who tear their DIYMA probably made the wrong choice in the first place.

deff had the box correct for the sub. but i do think the power/box combo was a problem.

thanks. yes, part of the reason why i baught the sub was the looks, price, reviews! and the only reason why i mounted it revearse was cause depth was a issue. i wanted to keep the space behind my seats clear for stoarge, groceries etc. been hard to find a sub that doesnt need much depth without going to a slim sub and i havent found a slim sub that has called my name yet in the price/performance factor of things.

i will admit that i chose the wrong sub for my application, but i didnt think i was as much of a bass head as i am.

also cant say bad things about the sub because before the problem, i loved the way it sounded. just didnt realize i wanted more output then it was able to produce.

and in conclusion....

SUB IS STILL FOR SALE!!!! $65 SHIPPED IN THE USA
