grounding to a magenetic source

I was looking to ground my 1600W hifonics to my hatch latch in my grand cherokee. I have discovered that there is a magnetic source somewhere in the latch. Will this effect my ground at all?

Just make sure you have a very solid ground for the 1600 watts....

ok, so i ran the ground. it is a very solid connection in my opinion, however, when i close my trunk latch, i lose power to the amp. anyone have anything on this? it works when the hatch is open ....

Sounds like you grounded to a moving part that is only connected to ground when the trunk is open.

^ Yar, ground somewhere else, something that isn't on a moving part and preferably a part phyiscally (welded) to the chassis of the car.

You gave us the problem douche bag, now go ground it somewhere else like a good little boy.

Really, think about it...you think you're going to get a good ground through the trunk lid to the battery. The thing is on hingles then is seperated between the hinges by grease.

Do you really think you're going to get a good ground out of it?

When you close the **** thing it stops working, do you still think it's a good ground?

The best ground is to run a wire back to the battery, but the closer you can get to a solid piece of metal that goes up to the engine bay and is grounded to the battery fairly well, the better off you are. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/blackeye.gif.66a1670f5aaf7f406e783a63e3387dc5.gif

no the douche bag is the person that grounded his amp to the cars hatch latch and now has problems.

its probly one thats just a wire striped and ***** around the the bar the hach latches on to

ok ok, i'm not retarded enough to ground to the actual hatch. jesus.

its the latch that catches the hatch and holds it shut. When I posted this, I already had it grounded elsewhere and everything works fine. I want to know the technical reason why this will not work!!! Anyone can provide a "ground it somewhere else" or "ground it the best way" answers. I want a little more technical detail for future installations.

This is where it was grounded. under the latch around one of the bolts.
