ground resistance

5 ohms? Are you crazy? 5 ohms would mean a drop of 5 volts with only a 1 amp draw. Basically if you can measure the ground path resistance in ohms with a basic DMM, it's WAY too high. The only way you should be able to measure it with normal equipment is indirectly with a clamp meter measuring the current and a voltmeter measuring the voltage drop from the amp to the battery neg post and then calculating the resistance.

thx guy amp is seeing power but no sound //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif .

the amp is an Alpine MRP-M650. I dont know if this thing is going into protection or not(how do I tell if its gone into protection or not), but it is getting power. the deck is a pionner DEH-2800MP, and the preouts dont seem to be putting out any voltage according to the dmm on DCV and ACV. so im thinking faulty deck preouts.

It would only show on ACV, make sure that you have the range on the DMM set to the correct range and the go ahead and turn the volume all the way up to check the voltage. Test the voltage between the center conductor and the outer portion of the barrel of the RCA jack. You will should see something around 1V with music.

*you can ground it anywhere on the trunk lid is fine just make sure it's not too long and it's less than 5 ohms*

ya got it working. just had to turn the gain up a little bit for it to start moving the sub. will tune with dmm when i get the box built.

I'm guessing that's what it is. There's not a lot of room back there.
