Ground Loop Isolators

For the people who have alternator whine and bought a GLI to fix it, how well did it work? completely? a little? and did it diminish the overall sound quality after installation? and what brand was it?

ever since i installed my T5002 i got horrible whine, just by swapping it out in place of my zx650.4. i've tried just about everything to get rid of it and i just can't find the culprit from all new grounds, completely re-ran RCA's and grounding rca's, head unit cover, ect.

then i bought a cheap (only one they had) ground loop isolator from Fry's and it helped but it made it sound like everything was being played in a tin can and overall just made it sound horrible.

i just bought a stinger GLI off ebay and was wondering if anyone has used one before and how were the results?

yeah ground loop isolaters **** major balls, i put one in a buddys honda and it made the music echo, u should call rockford fosgate and see what the problem is. one of my local dealers told me to stay away from the newer model amps cause some get really bad engine noise

welcome to hell //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

im in the same position as you. stay away from GLI's and keep trying to locate the problem. ground headunit to the NEG on the battery and see if it gets better.

Did you do all of that other stuff like running the power and rcas on opposite sides and all of that?
yup, i've even taken my head unit out, ran them across the seats directly to amp with no change in noise...

and yes, i installed it correctly. positive in + negative in - and rca's in input, haha...

it's just weird that i put it DIRECTLY in place of my zx650.4 that had NO whine, and now it's so prevalent i don't even want to listen to it...

and bass-aholic, i've tried that //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif i had everything grounded to my second battery in the cabin which is grounded back to the front battery. i even tried removing my second battery and grounding back to the chassis but it didn't change anything.

may be a dumb question but do you think running a dedicated ground from the alternator to chassis would help? i mean, it is already bolted to the engine...

i dunno... it makes me want to burn my truck to the ground and start over...

Since you have a pioneer, did you ground the rca's to the back of the head unit?
i tried but i dunno if i grounded them correctly. i just splice a wire on the outer part of the plug of the rca, plug it in and then ground it to the HU? i might have to try this again...

and tc3k101 i know what RF will say... they have a FAQ in the manual for whine and i've already tried everything it suggests (ie: re-grounding amps, rca's on opposite side of power cables ect)

He should replace the amp with the kicker and see if its still there. My bet is the Pioneer fuse popped.
is there a different fuse besides the inline one on the power wire?

and i would, but the power supply on the zx amp is toasted...

I bet its the Pitco fuse or whatever its called. Pioneer is notorious for it and currently talking to a kid from Cali that bought my 880 about it as he is getting horrible noise. I had grounded it out from deck to chasis and it went away for the most part, but was still there and faint.

Does anyone know how to fix that fuse in the deck? Want to try to help this kid out as he is a good dude.

Sorry to hijack, but may be same type of problem you are having.

Check out the thread i linked a few posts up, on page 6, post# 78.

It looks too complicated for me but you could give it a try
