If you don't want it that fancy, then don't cut a desgin into it, just do that bbq grill design you originally wanted. It'd be a hell of a lot easier cutting out a grill on that plexi than messing around with welding those pipes, plus it would give it a clean look (maybe the clean look is just me cause i'm new, but i think plexi looks freakin great, when done nicely) Plus it's strong so it'll protect the subs and won't be as bulky as the pipes.
