i actually retired last november. well, thats what i tell my probation officer.1. Saving $16,000 in one year is no easy feat for many people on this forum.2. You can't "put money in a roth ira". It is a legal holding account. Within a roth ira, you may purchase a variety of securities, including mutal funds.
3. You have no idea of when he will retire, his risk profile, asset allocation, etc. Just dropping $16k in any mutual fund may or may not yield a rate of return that results in $2MM by the age of retirement. Furthermore, $2M may or may not be a signifcant sum at the time of retirement.
Thats why i said to save 15k for a security fund(for emergencies). I never said one year. I think roths are limited to 2k a year and have to be earned.1. Regardless, I was just giving him general direction. There are many factors to consider as you pointed out, but these should be discussed with your financial adviser.
Saving > Buying a platinum grill.
im still only 20, so i was just gunna start throwing money into an account that pays atleast something half way decent and never look at it. end of every year sometime in december throw in $365 (dollar for everyday) into it and a however much of my tip money (until i get a salary job). would prob be somewhere around $3k/year for now, and was planning on when im out of school and working live on at max half my income, quarter in my spending account for bills and quarter into whatever account i start for later in lifeYou should. When the economy is bad is when it is time to buy. Just don't look at your portfolio everyday. If you try to time the bottom, best of luck. I cannot do it and I don't try.
who cares, you think we are getting out of this debt anytime soon?Free monies....... idiot. It isn't free it puts the country further in debt
Assuming you find a mutual fund that will consistently net you 13.18% annual interest for the next 39 years (for a retirement age of 65). Please let me know where I can find said magical mutual fund that outperforms the average stock market return so that I can retire early.Take that money and save it. and save every penny you make untill you have 15K.
Then save every penny beyond the 15k put in a roth ira or a mutual fund. Put 16k in their by the time you turn 26 and when you retire you will have 2million dollars.
Then go get some teeth because you will need them.
Actually no, I haven't seen the price of platinum. I said 15k because I have a family to support and I was unaware of his situation. He is 25 years old.
Plus, I don't see why he would need $15,000 in a security fund. In his financial position, $4k tops.
Roths are limited to $5k.
Seen the price of platinum lately?
